89. Penis. Scrotum.

Covers the penis and scrotum together. The penis section describes its three bodies (root, body and glans), the erectile tissues and ligaments, the internal layers, and the arterial, venous, lymphatic and nerve supply. The scrotum section lists its contents and temperature regulation, then tabulates its layers against the abdominal wall, followed by its blood supply and innervation. Includes a table comparing scrotal and abdominal wall layers.

P E N I S

  • Is an external genitale male organ with both excretory and copulative functions.
  • It is formed from 3 erectile bodies and the urethra, wich courses throughout its entire length.

Structure : 3 bodies :

1 Root :

  • the proximal part.
  • attached internally to the pelvic bones.
  • Made up of 3 types of erectile tissue One bulb and two crura.
  • become engorged with blood, leading to increased size, rigidity, and functionality of the organ found in penis & clitoris.
  • Penis Bulb: unpaired dilated part, underneath the perineum.
  • Penic Crura:
  • are two elongated cylindrical structures.
  • Composed of erectile tissue (Corpora Cavernosa)
  • Attached to the pelvic bones.

3 Glans penis

  • ● 5.1 Corona of glans (corona glandis) – a dilated rim of the glans facing the body of the penis
  • ● 5.2 Neck of glans (collum glandis) – a groove separating the glans from the body of the penis
  • ● 5.3 External urethral orifice (ostium urethrae externum) – the most distal part at the tip of the glans
  • ● 5.4 Foreskin / prepuce (preputium) – a skin fold of the body of the penis that can be pulled over the glans to a variable extent
  • ● 5.5 Frenulum (frenulum preputii) – a ventrally located skin crease – a transition between the skin of the glans and the skin of the prepuce
  • ● 5.6 Preputial glands / Tyson's glands (glandulae preputiales) – small smegma-producing glands at the inner margin of the foreskin

2 Body: "also known as the shaft"

2 Surfaces:

  • Dorsum surface - upper anterior
  • Urethral surface + Raphe - line on the urethral surface

2 erectile tissues:

  • Corpora Cavernosa: - 2 columns
  • upper side
  • responsible for the majority of penile rigidity during an erection.
  • Corpus spongisoum:
  • single column
  • surround the urethra.
  • In the lower part.
  • helping to keep urethra open for the passage of semen and urine.

2 ligaments

  • Fundiform ligament: attach penis - pubic symphysis.
  • Suspensory ligament: " dorsum surface - pubic symphysis.
