Anatomy Bones and Muscles · MU Pleven

142. Corpus callosum. Commissures. Fornix.

Covers the lateral ventricles (horns, walls, septum pellucidum, choroid plexus) and then the cranial meninges. Explains the two dural layers, the dural folds in a comparison table, and the arterial and nerve supply of the dura by cranial fossa, with detail on the middle meningeal artery. Closes with venous drainage and dural sinuses, arachnoid and pia mater, CSF circulation and the meningeal spaces.

LATERAL VENTRICLE

  • Lateral ventricle is the largest ventricle within the brain.
  • There are 2 lateral ventricles in the brain ; one in each hemisphere.

Structure:

  • Each lateral ventricle has a C-shaped structure with:
  1. 1. Anterior horn : Extends into the frontal lobe.
  • about 3 cm , pyramid -shaped
  • lateral wall formed by: head of caudate nucleus
  • Roof : corpus callosum
  • Medial wall " " : Septum pellucidum.
  1. 2. Body :- lies within the parietal lobe.
  • Floor: the thalamus & tail of caudate nucleus.
  1. 3. Posterior horn: extends into the occipital lobe.
  2. 4. Inferior horn: extends into the temporal lobe
  • * It connects the third ventricle through the interventricular foramen. (= Monro foramin)
  • * The two lateral ventricles separated by the septum Pellucidum.
  • ↓ thin sheet spans btw. the corpus callosum & fornix in the midline.

Components:

  1. 1. Choroid plexus - a network of blood vessels in the ventricles that produces CSF.

Functions:

  1. 1. CSF Production.
  2. 2. CSF Circulation.
