BLOOD SUPPLY OF THE HEART
The blood supply of the heart is provided by the coronary artery:
Coronary Artery:
1. Right Coronary artery:
- Originates from the right aortic sinus of the ascending aorta.
- It runs between pulmonary trunk and right auricle, to the anterior part of coronary groove down to inferior border of heart, then winds to run in posterior part of coronary groove.
- Ends by anastomosing with the circumflex branch of the left coronary artery.
- Branches:
- Conus art.
- Sinoatrial Nodal (SN) A.
- Right atrial branches
- Right Marginal art.
- Posterior interventricular art.

The right coronary artery supplies the right atrium and right ventricle, the sinu-atrial and atrioventricular nodes, the interatrial septum, a portion of the left atrium, the posteroinferior one third of the interventricular septum. and a portion of the posterior part of the left ventricle.
2. Left Coronary artery:
- Originates from the left aortic sinus of the ascending aorta.
- Runs behind pulmonary trunk, then between it and left auricle.
- Ends on reaching the coronary groove by giving anterior interventricular art. and continues as the circumflex artery.
- Branches:
- L.C.A
- Anterior Interventricular art.
- Conus art.
- Proximal lateral art.
- Distal lateral art.
- Circumflex branch
- Left atrial branch
- left marginal art.
- L. atrioventricular art.
The distribution pattern of the left coronary artery enables it to supply most of the left atrium and left ventricle, and most of the interventricular septum, including the atrioventricular bundle and its branches.
