Bones and Muscles · 8. Femur, tibia and fibula.

Covers the femur as the longest, heaviest and strongest bone, outlining its proximal end, shaft and distal end, with its articulations at the hip and knee. Then describes the patella as the largest sesamoid bone, formed within the quadriceps femoris tendon. Finally introduces the tibia as the second largest bone and notes its connection to the fibula by the interosseous membrane, with the fibula not articulating with the femur.

FEMUR

  • The femur or thigh bone, is the longest, heaviest & strongest bone in the body.
  • Consists of :
  • ↳ Proximal end: articulates with the acetabulum.
  • ↳ Shaft: angels medially

PATELLA (knee cap)

  • Is the larges sesamoid bone (a bone formed within the tendon of muscle).
  • It is formed within the tendon of quadriceps femoris m. as it crosses anterior to the knee joint to insert into the tibia.
