Anatomy · MU Sofia
Histology · Liver
Covers the histology of the liver, starting with the fibrous capsule and its mesothelial surface, then the hepatocyte parenchyma. It compares three ways of schematising the lobular structure: the classic hexagonal lobule based on blood flow, the triangular portal lobule based on bile flow, and the diamond-shaped hepatic acinus with its three perfusion zones. It then describes the portal tract, the central vein, and hepatocyte size, nuclei and membrane domains, with several annotated micrographs.
