Covers the rectum from its start at the sigmoid colon around the S3 vertebra to its end below the coccyx, where it becomes the anal canal. It describes the lack of colonic wall features, the length, and the surrounding structures in males and females. The note also sets out the rectal flexures, the peritoneal coverage of its three parts, and the arterial, venous, nerve and lymphatic supply, with a table of the blood vessels and several labelled diagrams.

Begins as a continuation of the sigmoid colon (at S3 vertebra) and ends one inch bellow the coccyx (as it gives the anal canal)
