85. Male and female genital systems - overview and development.

Covers the male reproductive system: its ten organs, from the testes and epididymis through the glands and urethra to the penis, scrotum, and hypothalamic-pituitary control. It then traces embryonic development in two stages, the shared indifferent gonad stage and male testis development, including the role of the SRY gene, the sex cords, and Leydig and Sertoli cells.

In this note

  1. MALE REPRODUCTIVE System.
  2. Development :
  3. Organs :
  4. 2 stages (the 1st stage is the same in females & males)

Development :

- The male reproductive system responsible for the production, storage and delivery of sperm.

Organs :

  1. 1. Testes: The primary male reproductive organs responsible for producing sperm and testosterone.
  2. 2. Epididymis: A coiled tube located on the back of each testicle where sperm mature and are stored.
  3. 3. Vas Deferens: Tubes that carry mature sperm from the epididymis to the urethra during ejaculation.
  4. 4. Seminal Vesicles: Glands that produce a significant portion of semen, providing nutrients and fluid to sperm.
  5. 5. Prostate Gland: Produces a fluid that nourishes and protects sperm, forming part of semen.
  6. 6. Bulbourethral Glands: Also known as Cowper's glands, they secrete a clear fluid that lubricates the urethra and neutralizes acidity in the urethra.
  7. 7. Urethra: A tube that carries urine and semen out of the body through the penis, though not simultaneously.
  8. 8. Penis: The external male reproductive organ that contains the urethra and is involved in sexual intercourse and urination.
  9. 9. Scrotum: A sac of skin and muscle that houses the testes, helping to regulate their temperature for optimal sperm production.
