Covers the testis as a male genital gland: its position in the scrotum and prenatal descent, its external poles and borders, and its innervation and blood, venous and lymphatic drainage. It then describes the coverings (scrotum, tunica vaginalis, tunica albuginea) and the internal structure, including lobules, seminiferous tubules with interstitial Leydig cells, and the rete testis. Several labelled pictures and dimension and weight figures are included.
Topic 30 of 44 in the MU Sofia syllabus for Anatomy (Internal Organs+Glands) (Medicine, Years 1 and 2). The free AceMed note covers it in 6 sections, about 440 words (3 min of reading), with 10 flashcards.

TESTIS
Are pair of genital gland.
Located in the scrotum (outside the abdominopelvic cavity). (pouch of skin and muscles beneath the penis)
During prenatal development, they originate in the lumbar region and descend through the retroperitoneal space and inguinal canal to reach the scrotum.
The layers of the abdominal wall form the layer of the scrotum as the testes passes through them.
Are the male gonades.
They are the Primary reproductive organ in males.
Dimensions : 5 x 2.5
External structure:
1 Upper pole (extremitas superior)
2 Lower pole (extremitas inferior) – the attachment of the scrotal ligament to the testis
2.1 Scrotal ligament (ligamentum scrotale) – a ligament attaching the lower pole of the testis and epididymis to the scrotum
3 Anterior border (margo anterior) – the anterior margin facing the tunica vaginalis
4 Posterior border (margo posterior) – the posterior margin facing the epididymis
5 Medial surface (facies medialis) – the medial surface facing the septum of the scrotum
6 Lateral surface (facies lateralis)
