201. Vestibular nerve of the vestibulocochlear nerve. Vestibular sensory system.
Covers the vestibular pathway, which handles balance, spatial orientation and head movement, starting with the peripheral parts: the semicircular canals that detect rotation and the utricle and saccule that detect linear acceleration and head position. It then follows the route from the inner ear through the vestibular ganglion and internal acoustic meatus to the vestibular nuclei in the medulla, shown as a table of nuclear groups. Finally it lists the nuclei's connections with the spinal cord, cerebellum, eye movement nuclei and thalamus.
Topic 22 of 44 in the MU Sofia syllabus for Anatomy (PNS) (Medicine, Year 2). The free AceMed note covers it in 5 sections, about 129 words (1 min of reading), with 10 flashcards.

Vestibular pathway :
The vestibular pathway is responsible for processing related to balance, spatial orientation, & head movement.
The vestibular system consists of both central & peripheral componants.
Peripheral Vestibular System :
Semicircular Canals : 3 fluid-filled canals within the inner ear, that detect rotational movements of the head.
Utricle & Saccule : within the inner ear, that detect linear accelerations & head position relative to gravity.
