Covers the posterior region of the wrist, including the skin and fascia, the extensor retinaculum and its six osteo-fibrous canals, then moves to the palm: its thick skin with three deep lines and their functional meaning, the subcutaneous nerves, and the palmar aponeurosis. It lists the structures of the midpalmar space from superficial to deep, the thenar septum of Kanaveli, and the dorsum of the hand, covering its skin, fascia, extensor tendons and dorsal blood vessels. Several labelled pictures accompany the text.

Introduction
Posterior Region:
PALMAR Region.
Skin :
Subcutaneus tissue:
Palmar Aponeurosis & fascia
DORSUM of the hand
Superficial fascia
Cutaneous Nerves :
Deep fascia
Extensor muscles tendons
Dorsal aponeurosis
Superficial blood vessels
Introduction
262 cont.
Posterior Region:
1. Skin and Fascia:
Coarser and more mobile than the anterior carpal region.
Superficial fascia contains minimal adipose tissue.
Venous vessels present:
V. basilica and v. cephalica.
Terminal segments of n. cutaneus antebrachii posterior.
R. superficialis n. radialis and r. dorsalis n. ulnaris.
2. Retinaculum mm. Extensorum:
Transverse fibrous band strengthening the fascia antebrachii.
Fuses with tendons of extensor muscles (2nd to 5th finger).
Forms six osteo-fibrous canals on the dorsal wrist:
Transmit tendons of extensor muscles.
Skin :
Thickness: The skin of the palm is thick and tough.
Lines: Three deep, permanent lines are characteristic:
Distal Line
Middle Line
Proximal Line
Attachment: The skin is tightly connected to the underlying structures by fibrous strands, especially along these lines.
Functional Significance of Lines:
Distal and Middle Lines: Reflect the repeated flexion of the 2nd to 5th fingers.
Proximal Line: Reflects the movement of thumb opposition.
Subcutaneus tissue:
Contains small veins and cutaneous nerves.
Nerves:
R. Palmaris N. Mediani
R. Palmaris N. Ulnaris
Small branches from N. Digitales Palmares Communes
