225. Regio brachii anterior.

Explains the anterior compartment of the arm, beginning with how the medial and lateral intermuscular septa divide the arm and where the bicipital grooves and their superficial veins lie. A labelled diagram lists the compartment's muscles and the structures passing along the medial septum and into the grooves. It then covers surface features, skin, fascia, the neurovascular bundle with the relative positions of its nerves, and the course of the musculocutaneous, ulnar and radial nerves, ending with the brachial pulse.

THE ARM

The arm is divided by the medial and lateral intermuscular septa into two osteofascial compartments: the anterior and posterior compartments of the arm. The medial and lateral bicipital grooves are located above the junctions of the medial and lateral intermuscular septa with the brachial fascia. Superficial veins run in both grooves and distally are joined by the cutaneous nerves of the forearm.

Parts

  1. 1 Anterior compartment of arm (compartimentum brachii anterius)
  • – the anterior group of the arm muscles
  1. 2 Posterior compartment of arm (compartimentum brachii posterius)
  • – the posterior group of the arm muscles
  1. 3 Medial intermuscular septum of arm
  • – structures passing anteriorly:
  1. 3.1 Brachial vein and artery
  2. 3.2 Musculocutaneous nerve
  3. 3.3 Median nerve
  4. 3.4 Ulnar nerve (only in the proximal half of the arm)
  5. 4 Medial bicipital groove
  • – contains:
  1. 4.1 Basilic vein
  2. 4.2 Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm
  3. 5 Lateral bicipital groove
  • – passing superficially and ventral to it:
  1. 5.1 Cephalic vein
