Biology

Biology is taught in Year 1 of the Medicine degree at the Medical University of Pleven, and its syllabus runs through five chapters. It opens with molecular biology, from macromolecules, genome organisation and gene expression to mutations, DNA repair and recombinant DNA technology, then turns to heredity and population genetics, including Mendel's laws and Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The cell cycle, reproduction and development follow, then immunology, from immune organs and antibodies to MHC, transplantation and HIV, and finally parasitology, covering protozoa, flukes, tapeworms, roundworms and arthropod vectors. AceMed has notes for all 63 topics, around four hours of reading built around 244 labelled pictures and 7 tables, plus 1,492 flashcards.

The full MU Pleven syllabus for Biology, Medicine, Year 1: 63 topics, every one with a free study note (4 hours of reading), and 1,492 flashcards. Updated 29 October 2026.
