Latin
Latin is taught in Year 1 of Medicine at the Medical University of Sofia, and its syllabus has 23 topics in two chapters. Grammar works through the five noun declensions, first- to third-declension adjectives with their medical suffixes, and comparative forms. Anatomical and clinical terminology then shows how terms are built from Greek and Latin prefixes, roots and suffixes. It groups them by body structures, humours, the head, the cranial, oral, chest and abdominal cavities, the reproductive organs and the stages of life, and it also covers how a Latin prescription is written.
