Dental Medicine · Year 2 · MU Sofia
Biochemistry
Biochemistry is taught in Year 2 of the Dental Medicine degree at the Medical University of Sofia, and its syllabus runs through 70 topics in a single chapter. It begins with proteins, nucleic acids and enzymes, moves through biological oxidation and the respiratory chain, then carbohydrate, lipid, amino acid and nucleotide metabolism, porphyrins and haemoglobin. Later topics cover DNA replication, the genetic code, gene regulation, recombinant DNA, hormone signalling, diabetes, the cell cycle, apoptosis and oncogenesis, before vitamins, digestion, the liver, muscle, connective tissue and calcium metabolism. AceMed's notes, about six hours of reading, are built around 387 labelled pictures, often link pathways to clinical disorders, usually close with multiple-choice questions, and come with 708 flashcards.
