Neurology

Neurology is taught in Year 4 of the Medicine degree at the Medical University of Sofia, and its syllabus runs as a single sequence of 88 topics. It opens with the neurological examination: reflexes, sensation, motor, extrapyramidal and cerebellar systems, cranial nerves, higher cortical functions, consciousness and the autonomic system. Investigations follow, including CSF, EEG, EMG, ultrasound and neuroimaging, then topical syndromes. The second half turns to diseases: neuropathies, infections, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, dementias, movement disorders, hereditary and muscle diseases, headache and vertigo. AceMed has a note for every topic, about three hours of reading in all, with 80 labelled pictures, 30 tables, occasional mnemonics and 1,356 flashcards.
